What a great way to finish off the Saturday working season, home made muffins and bacon baps! (We did a lot of hard work as well!) Big thanks to Liz, Steve, Gareth and Rowan. See you all at the AGM on 17th April.

A huge hazel expertly coppiced by the midweek team this morning.
Well, it really was "Super Saturday" in The Copse this morning. Coppicing, hazel planting, archangel bashing, nest boxes, dead hedging, birthday cup cakes and a visit from The Town Mayor Cllr. Maria Gee. Holt Copse and Joel Park has been awarded the top Gold Award in the Parks category in this year's Thames & Chilterns in Bloom. Some quotes from the judges - "This is a lovely site providing a great resource for both people and wildlife and the Conservation Volunteers and the Town Council should be congratulated on their work here" "The Holt Copse Conservation Volunteers have achieved a huge amount since they were formed in 1999 and have really made The Copse what it is today" Well done everybody!  Hedge finished, Glade seeded and bacon butties consumed. Not a bad day!    Some photos from todays tree planting in Joel Park attended by Wokingham Town Mayor Tony Lack and representatives from The Newbury Building Society, who's generous contribution helped to purchase the trees.   
  We were honoured by a visit from the Town Mayor and Mayoress (Tony and Claire Lack) this morning to thank us for our efforts towards the Wokingham "Bloom" initiative and generally thank us for the work we have done in The Copse over the past twenty years. Long service awards were presented to Mike, Colin, Valerie, John and Pip with certificates and chocolate bars handed out to all.
First coppicing session of the season. A good turnout with some new faces and a very enjoyable morning.  Three red oak trees planted today with help from the staff of the Newbury Building Society (and their kids!)  Hedges trimmed today with help from the staff of the Wokingham branch of the Newbury Building Society. Great to have you with us!   |
