Well, it really was "Super Saturday" in The Copse this morning. Coppicing, hazel planting, archangel bashing, nest boxes, dead hedging, birthday cup cakes and a visit from The Town Mayor Cllr. Maria Gee. First coppicing session of the season. A good turnout with some new faces and a very enjoyable morning.
Excellent turn out this morning for the first work party of our 20th season. Some fine coppicing and expert dead hedge weaving was in evidence. Re-visiting where we started 20 years ago.
An excellent turnout for the last Saturday work party before Christmas (Maybe we need to have mince pies and mulled punch more often?).
Have a great Christmas everyone! See you on 5th January. Two photos taken today that show what happens to ground flora when rampant holly growth is left unchecked and also when managed through a regular coppicing regime.
Mince pies and hot fruit punch at tea break today courtesy of Santa and his storm kettle.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all you wonderful Holt Copse people. See you on Jan 13th! Here are a couple of views of the area in compartment one that we have been clearing, coppicing and planting this winter. We have removed a lot of holly, lightening up the area considerably. Come springtime this area should be looking fabulous with bluebells and all the new hazel we have planted.
